Mr. Long Yongtu served in the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in New York (1978–1980) and at the United Nations Development Programme headquarters (1980–1985), before becoming the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (1985–1986). From 1986 to 1991, he was Deputy Director General of the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC). Starting in 1992, he served as Director General of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs, Assistant Minister, and Vice Minister of MOFTEC. From 1995 to 2001, as Chief Representative for Trade Negotiations, he led and successfully concluded China’s 15-year WTO accession negotiations. In 2003, he was elected Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia and became an honorary member in 2018. Mr. Long has received numerous honors, including the “CCTV 2003 Economic Person of the Year”, a Special Award presented by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and the Order of Leopold awarded by His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium. Academically, he served as Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs as well as Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University. He has also held professorships at Peking University, Tsinghua University, and joined the Shantou University Council at the invitation of Mr. Li Ka-shing. He frequently speaks at international forums hosted by Harvard University, the London School of Economics (LSE), the National University of Singapore, and other leading institutions. In 2006, Mr. Long received an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the London School of Economics. He has also authored books such as Globalization, WTO, and China and On the Way with Long Yongtu
